In a renewed pledge at the ongoing 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Nigeria’s Defence Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening its role in global peacekeeping and international security efforts. According to multiple sources including PRNigeria News and Google News, General Musa made the commitment on Tuesday during the opening session of the UNGA at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, alongside Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The Minister’s statement reinforces Nigeria’s longstanding role as a global peacekeeper. The West African nation has contributed troops to various United Nations Peacekeeping Missions (UNPKM) since 1960, according to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).
The renewed commitment comes amidst a global call for increased collaboration in maintaining international peace and security.
