Ebola: Nigerian Lawmakers Urge Release of Outstanding Health Funds for Stronger Response

Following the resurgence of the Ebola virus in Guinea, Nigerian lawmakers have urged the Federal Government to release outstanding health funds to strengthen the country’s response, according to Premium Times Nigeria. The House of Representatives, in a statement, called on the Federal Government to urgently release all outstanding appropriated funds to relevant health agencies to strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness and response to the Ebola outbreak. The call comes after Guinea recorded its first Ebola case in five years, raising concerns about a potential spread to neighboring countries. Tribune Online also reported the call by the House of Representatives. The release of these funds is crucial to ensuring that Nigeria is adequately prepared to handle any potential Ebola outbreak and to avoid a repeat of the 2014 Ebola outbreak that affected several West African countries.
