EFCC and Australian Police Join Forces to Combat Cybercrime
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Australian authorities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combat the growing issue of cybercrime.

In a bid to address the rising challenge of cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
According to the EFCC chairman, Mr. Olukoyede, this collaboration becomes necessary as financial crimes are increasingly crossing national borders.
The MoU, signed on Thursday, November 4, 2026, signifies a commitment by both parties to share intelligence, expertise, and resources in the fight against cybercrime.
This move is part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the battle against financial crimes.
The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Her Excellency Jane Mundy, expressed her government’s commitment to working closely with the EFCC in combating cybercrime, which has become a significant threat to both countries.
This development comes at a time when the Nigerian cybersecurity landscape is facing numerous challenges, with cybercrime costs estimated to reach N3 trillion in 2026, according to a report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The EFCC and the AFP have not yet disclosed specific details about the MoU or when the joint operations are expected to commence.
