Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has formally assumed duties, according to multiple sources. On Friday, the former Minister of Aviation presented copies of his Letters of Credence to the Deputy Director-General, Public Diplomacy, and Acting Chief of State Protocol, Mr Clayson Monyela at the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation, DIRCO. This marks the beginning of Fani-Kayode’s tenure as Nigeria’s representative in South Africa.
The presentation was reported by Punch Newspapers, Daily Post Nigeria, THISDAYLIVE, and PRNigeria News. However, it is unclear when exactly Fani-Kayode began his duties or if the Nigerian government has officially announced the appointment.
Fani-Kayode’s diplomatic role comes at a critical time for bilateral relations between Nigeria and South Africa. Both nations have been working to strengthen economic ties and address issues such as migration and crime.
Fani-Kayode’s appointment was welcomed by many Nigerians, given his experience in public service and diplomacy. As a prominent politician and lawyer, he has been involved in various high-profile matters, including serving as Minister of Aviation under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
