According to a report by Tribune Online, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has accused the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Comrade Olukayode Adeniyi, of using an indefinite strike to boost the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s chances in the 2027 elections. The strike, which began on Wednesday, is over a dispute regarding the promotion of teachers in the FCT. According to Olayinka, the NLC Chairman is using the strike to further his political ambitions, and he has urged the FCT workers to resist any attempts to politicize their union. The ADC has not yet commented on the allegations. This is not the first time that the NLC has been accused of politicizing its actions. In the past, the union has been criticized for aligning with political parties and using strikes to further their political interests. The allegations against the FCT NLC Chairman come at a critical time, as the 2027 elections approach and political parties begin to position themselves for victory.
