On Wednesday, the Federal Government took a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in health financing with the launch of the Nigeria Health Financing Observatory (NHFO). According to Tribune Online, the NHFO will provide comprehensive data on health expenditure by various tiers of government, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders. This initiative is expected to bolster efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria. The NHFO was launched at an event attended by key stakeholders including the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, and representatives from development partners. According to Ehanire, the observatory will help to ensure that resources allocated to healthcare are used effectively and efficiently, ultimately improving health outcomes for Nigerians. The launch of the NHFO is part of a broader push by the Federal Government to improve the country’s healthcare system, which has been hampered by inadequate funding and poor accountability in recent years.
