In a significant move towards promoting education and combating child marriage, the Federal Government has urged over 500 girls in Ondo and Nasarawa states to prioritize their education, according to a report by Radio Nigeria Lagos. The urging comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure equal access to quality education for all Nigerian children, particularly girls. The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to quality education for girls, pledging to strengthen interventions aimed at removing barriers to school attendance, improving learner retention as stated in a report by Tribune Online. The issue of child marriage is a pressing one in Nigeria, with over 23% of girls married before the age of 15, according to UNICEF. The practice not only denies these girls their fundamental right to education but also exposes them to various health risks and violations. The Federal Government’s intervention is a welcome step towards eradicating child marriage and ensuring that every girl in Nigeria has the opportunity to receive a quality education.
