Former INEC Commissioner Mike Igini: Most Public Office Holders Should Be in Prison

According to Daily Post Nigeria, former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mike Igini, has asserted that most people currently holding public office should be in prison. In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Igini expressed his views on the 2027 general elections, stating that they would be a significant test for Nigeria’s democracy. Igini argued, ‘The 2027 general elections will be more than a test. Many people in public office today are engaged in activities that, in other democratic nations, would land them in prison.’

Igini’s comments come at a time of heightened political tension in Nigeria, with allegations of corruption and malfeasance leveled against numerous public figures. The call for accountability and transparency in government has been a recurring theme in Nigerian politics, and Igini’s remarks underscore the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the current state of governance.
