Giving Back to Alma Mater: The Babalakin, Olujimi Exemplars

Fourteen years separated them. One belongs to the Class of 1971, the other to the Class of 1985. Yet their individual journeys find anchorage in a common, strategic educational trajectory: Government College Ibadan. Nigerian businessman, lawyer, philanthropist and Chairman of the Bi-Courtney Group of Companies, Dr Bolanle Olawale Babalakin, proudly wears the badge of the prestigious institution he attended. His contemporary, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, a distinguished alumnus and former governor of Oyo State, also holds Government College Ibadan close to his heart. According to Tribune Online, these two distinguished alumni are setting new standards for giving back to their alma mater. Their philanthropic efforts are aimed at improving the quality of education, infrastructure, and overall student experience at the college. Dr Babalakin, for instance, has donated significantly to the college’s endowment fund, while Senator Ajimobi has supported various capital projects and scholarships. This story matters to Nigerian readers because it highlights the importance of alumni giving back to their alma maters. It underscores the role of individual contributions in shaping the future of educational institutions and inspiring future generations.
