Health Workers Mobilize for Showdown with FG over 13-year Salary Adjustment Delay
Health workers are preparing for a potential strike due to the federal government's failure to implement a 13-year-old salary adjustment.

Since 2013, health workers in Nigeria have been awaiting the implementation of a salary adjustment by the federal government. This long-standing delay has now led to a mobilization by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) for a possible industrial action. According to THISDAYLIVE, JOHESU has begun rallying health workers nationwide in preparation for a potential showdown with the government over this issue. The health workers are demanding the immediate implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), a new wage structure for health workers that was agreed upon in 2014 but has yet to be implemented.
This delay in salary adjustment has had significant consequences, with many health workers reporting financial hardships that have affected the quality of care they can provide. According to JOHESU, this situation threatens the overall health system in Nigeria.
The federal government has not yet commented on the current state of negotiations or when the facility might begin operating. This development comes amidst ongoing struggles for better working conditions and fair compensation for health workers in Nigeria, a crucial issue in maintaining a functional healthcare system.
