Following the omission of some of its gubernatorial candidates ahead of the 2027 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has moved to reassure its candidates. National Leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, said in a statement posted on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday that the party was taking steps to address the cases of those whose names were not published by INEC a few days ago. According to Vanguard News, Dickson said, ‘[We] have taken adequate steps to address the cases of those whose names were not published by INEC a few days ago.’ Daily Post Nigeria also reported that Dickson urged party candidates not to panic. He said, ‘Don’t panic, we are fixing it.’ It is unclear when INEC will release a revised list or how the NDC plans to address the omission. The NDC and INEC have not responded to requests for comment. The omission of candidates from the INEC list has sparked concern among political watchers, with some arguing that it could affect the party’s performance in the 2027 elections.
