The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the 2027 elections, according to reports. This development follows the completion of the voter registration exercise which saw over 103 million Nigerians registered to vote.
On Friday, 8th October 2026, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced that the nationwide PVC collection would officially commence the next day, 9th October. He made this announcement during a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja.
The INEC Chairman explained that the PVC collection exercise would continue until the 15th of October, providing voters with an opportunity to collect their PVCs across all registration areas in the country.
It is worth noting that this move by INEC comes following the successful completion of the voter registration exercise which saw over 103 million Nigerians registered to vote. This figure represents an increase from the 84 million registered voters in the 2019 general elections.
However, it is important to note that while INEC has confirmed the commencement of the PVC distribution, the electoral body has not yet disclosed when exactly the process began.
This development is crucial for the democratic process in Nigeria as it paves the way for the 2027 elections.
