On September 26th, LEADERSHIP Newspapers reported that the Centre for Integrated Strategic and Leadership Consultancy (CISLAC) has warned that weak institutions and insecurity pose a threat to Nigeria’s progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16). SDG 16 aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, access to justice for all, and effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. According to CISLAC, the current state of security in Nigeria has been exacerbated by weak institutions, corruption, and poor governance, which have hindered the implementation of policies aimed at addressing insecurity.
The report comes as Nigeria seeks international partnerships against insecurity, as highlighted by President Muhammadu Buhari at the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 25th. According to Tribune Online, Buhari called for a whole-of-society approach and global partnerships to combat insecurity in Nigeria.
