Lagos, Nigeria – Despite the Nigerian government’s ongoing drive to improve sanitation in Lagos, recent reports suggest that irregular waste collection is hampering these efforts. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on Monday that inconsistent waste collection is causing frustration among residents and heightening concerns about public health.
According to NAN, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has been unable to maintain a consistent waste collection schedule due to various challenges, including insufficient resources and infrastructure. This situation has left many parts of the city littered with trash, creating an unhealthy environment and posing potential risks to residents’ health.
In response to these issues, the Lagos State Government has called on residents to take personal responsibility for daily sanitation in their communities. In a separate report by NAN, the government urged residents to keep their environments clean and dispose of waste properly to aid the sanitation effort.
While the ongoing challenges with waste collection are frustrating, they highlight the need for increased investment in infrastructure and resources to support LAWMA’s efforts.
