JP Morgan Granted CBN Approval to Establish Merchant Bank in Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reportedly granted American multinational investment bank JP Morgan approval to establish a merchant bank in Nigeria. The development, which has been confirmed by multiple sources, comes as part of a broader push by the Nigerian government to attract foreign investment and boost the country’s economy. The CBN has not said when the facility began operating, nor have any details about the size of the investment been disclosed. The news of JP Morgan’s approval has been welcomed by many in the Nigerian business community, who see it as a positive sign of the country’s growing attractiveness to international investors. ‘This is a significant milestone for Nigeria’, said a senior official at the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission. ‘It shows that Nigeria is open for business and ready to attract foreign investment’. JP Morgan is one of the world’s leading financial institutions, with operations in over 60 countries. The bank’s entry into Nigeria is expected to bring increased liquidity to the Nigerian financial market and provide greater access to international capital for Nigerian businesses. The bank’s merchant banking operations will focus on providing a range of services to small and medium-sized enterprises, including lending, treasury, and trade finance solutions. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, JP Morgan has been granted approval-in-principle to establish the bank, which means it can now begin the process of setting up the operation in Nigeria. The bank is expected to begin operations in the coming months.
