Lagos Steps Up for the 2026 CAF Awards: Sanwo-Olu Assures Readiness

In a recent development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has pledged his support for the 2026 CAF Awards, assuring a well-prepared host city. According to multiple reports, Sanwo-Olu made this announcement during a meeting with Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials. This assurance comes as Lagos competes with other cities across Africa to host the prestigious event. The CAF Awards recognize outstanding achievements in African football, and hosting the event would boost Lagos’s reputation as a global sports hub. According to Businessday NG, Sanwo-Olu said, Lagos is ready. We are eager to demonstrate our commitment to African football by hosting the CAF Awards. This promise follows Lagos’s successful hosting of the 2019 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which showcased the city’s ability to handle large-scale events. Sanwo-Olu’s assurance was echoed by Blueprint Newspapers and Premium Times Nigeria, further emphasizing Lagos’s readiness to host the 2026 CAF Awards. The CAF has not yet announced the host city for the 2026 Awards, and the competition is expected to be fierce. However, with Sanwo-Olu’s commitment, Lagos is undoubtedly a strong contender. This news is significant for Nigerian football fans and the city’s tourism industry, as the event could attract international attention and boost economic growth.
