The Sun Nigeria, a leading Nigerian news outlet, reports that financing for the long-awaited Lagos airport rail link appears to be nearing completion, according to the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Rabiu Yadudu. In an interview with The Sun Nigeria on October 20, Yadudu stated, We are at an advanced stage in the negotiations for the financing of the rail extension project linking the Lagos Airport to the city center.
The FAAN MD’s comments align with a report by Aviation Metric published on October 18, which also suggested that financing talks for the Lagos airport rail extension have reached an advanced stage.
The development marks significant progress in a project that has been on the drawing board for years, aimed at easing traffic congestion around the Lagos Airport and improving connectivity between the airport and the city center.
Captain Yadudu did not specify when the financing for the project would be fully secured, but indicated that the process was at an advanced stage.
For years, commuters and travelers have grappled with the challenges of navigating traffic around the Lagos Airport, with the airport rail link project expected to address some of these issues. The project is part of a broader transport modernization plan for Lagos, which includes the ongoing construction of a light rail system and the expansion of the city’s bus rapid transit (BRT) network.
