Lagos State Government Urges Residents to Stay Hydrated and Avoid Sunlight Amid El Niño
The Lagos State Government has advised residents to take precautions against extreme heat as the El Niño climate pattern strengthens.

As the El Niño climate pattern strengthens, the Lagos State Government has urged residents to take precautions against possible extreme heat. According to a statement by the Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Dr. Olufemi Onanuga, residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and ensure they eat a balanced diet. The commissioner also urged residents to pay attention to children, the elderly, and people with underlying health conditions, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses. This advice comes as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has warned of increased temperatures and reduced rainfall across the country, a condition associated with El Niño. The agency advised Nigerians to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, such as heatstroke and dehydration. With the dry season setting in, it is crucial for residents to take these precautions to stay safe and healthy during the upcoming hot weather.
