Lagos Innovates Aims for More Tech Jobs after Supporting Over 1,200 Startups

The Lagos Innovates programme, a key initiative aimed at fostering technological growth in Nigeria’s bustling commercial hub, has announced its ambition to create more tech jobs. According to Nigeria Communications Week, the programme has already supported over 1,200 startups, providing a vital boost to the city’s tech ecosystem. This latest move is expected to further strengthen Lagos’ position as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in West Africa.

The exact number of new jobs to be created remains uncertain, but the initiative is anticipated to contribute significantly to the city’s employment landscape. Nigeria Communications Week quoted the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as saying, ‘We are committed to making Lagos a global innovation hub, and this includes creating more opportunities in the tech sector.’

The growth of tech jobs in Lagos is a significant development for Nigeria’s digital economy, which has seen rapid expansion in recent years. However, challenges remain, with issues such as digital literacy, infrastructure, and access to capital continuing to hinder progress. As Lagos Innovates moves forward with its plans, it will be crucial to address these challenges and ensure that the benefits of technological growth are shared equitably.
