In a move aimed at easing the burden of high energy and transportation costs on Nigerian businesses and households, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has proposed a six-month petrol price reduction programme. According to Vanguard News, the plan targets a 15 to 20% cut in pump prices. This proposal comes as a welcome development to the Federal Government’s stabilisation plan. The LCCI believes that a reduction in petrol prices would significantly lower energy and logistics costs, thereby stimulating economic growth. However, it’s essential to note that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has not yet commented on when the facility began operating or whether they will implement the LCCI’s proposed reduction. This proposal comes amidst rising petrol prices in Abuja and Lagos, with marketers reportedly increasing pump prices by N29/litre. This development has further intensified calls for a reduction in petrol prices, with the LCCI’s proposal offering a potential solution. The LCCI’s proposal is significant as it highlights the need for the government to address the high cost of energy and transportation, which have been major challenges for Nigerian businesses and households.
