Leadership changes in Nigeria: VP Shettima to lead UNGA delegation, NDC faces demands for apology

The leadership landscape in Nigeria is experiencing a notable shift following recent developments. In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu has mandated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him and lead Nigeria’s delegation at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) starting Tuesday in New York. This was confirmed by various news sources including Channels Television and The Guardian Nigeria News.

The decision comes as Tinubu himself announced his absence from the UNGA, a position he affirmed in reports by Daily Trust and other news outlets.

Meanwhile, the OK Movement, a political platform supporting the joint presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has demanded an apology from the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas. The demand follows Cleopas’ comments on the movement’s 59-member Presidential Campaign Council.

In response to these comments, the OK Movement stated that it rejects any form of intimidation and has demanded an immediate apology from the NDC. Reports of this demand were published by Punch Newspapers and other media outlets.

The leadership changes are expected to have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s domestic and international politics.
