Liyel Imoke Disputes Adoption of 2003 FEC Meeting Minutes on Mambilla Power Project

In a recent court hearing, former Minister of Power and Steel, Senator Liyel Imoke, denied knowledge of the adoption of minutes from a 2003 FEC meeting regarding the Mambilla Power Project.

In a surprising turn of events, former Minister of Power and Steel, Senator Liyel Imoke, has disputed any knowledge of the adoption of minutes from a 2003 Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting concerning the Mambilla Power Project. This revelation came to light during a recent court hearing in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to a report by the Tribune Online, Imoke, who served as Minister from 2003 to 2007, claimed he had no recollection of the meeting or the subsequent adoption of its minutes. The Mambilla Power Project, a long-awaited hydroelectric facility, has been a contentious issue due to numerous delays and allegations of corruption.

It’s important to note that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has not said when the facility began operating, and the government has faced criticism over the project’s progress. The Mambilla Power Project, located in Taraba State, is expected to generate 3,050 megawatts of electricity upon completion.

Imoke’s denial adds another layer to the complex story surrounding the Mambilla Power Project. It remains unclear whether this dispute will impact the project’s timeline or further investigations into its history.
