After a long-drawn battle, it appears that Nigeria has secured funding for the construction of the much-anticipated Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Plant. In a recent development, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, commended the nation on this achievement. However, he did not disclose the source of the funding or when the project will commence operations.
Malami’s statement came after reports circulated that Nigeria had secured a loan from China for the development of the power plant. The exact amount and terms of the loan have yet to be made public.
The Mambilla Power Plant, located in Taraba State, is expected to generate 3,050 megawatts (MW) of electricity upon completion. This would significantly boost Nigeria’s power generation capacity and contribute to solving the country’s persistent power supply issues.
Malami emphasized the need for transparency in the project’s implementation to ensure its successful execution. The Minister did not provide further details on how this transparency would be achieved or who would be responsible for ensuring it.
