In a media parley in Abuja on Tuesday, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, expressed confidence that his administration’s projects and engagement with indigenous communities will earn votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027. This declaration follows Wike’s recent admission of working with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to defeat his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the Edo State governorship election.
Speaking about his administration’s efforts in the FCT, Wike stated, ‘Our performance in the FCT will earn votes for President Tinubu in 2027.’ He cited the construction of police stations, infrastructure development, and engagement with traditional rulers as key factors that will secure votes for the president.
Wike’s cross-party mobilisation strategy involves stakeholders from both the APC and PDP. This strategy was unveiled during the media parley, with the Minister of State for the FCT, Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, present.
This development further highlights the political manoeuvring that is expected in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
According to THISDAYLIVE, Wike made similar remarks during a meeting with stakeholders in the FCT, asserting his role as a ‘field commander’ for Tinubu’s campaign.
It remains to be seen how Wike’s cross-party strategy will play out in the FCT and its impact on the 2027 elections.
