In a recent statement, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi (popularly known as Wike), has called for the election of competent leaders to drive Abuja’s development. According to a report by Premium Times Nigeria, Wike made this call during a town hall meeting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of Abuja, stating that the city needs strong leadership to address its numerous challenges and realise its full potential.
‘We need leaders who are dedicated to the development of Abuja. Leaders who will work tirelessly to ensure that our city is well-planned, safe, and economically viable,’ Wike was quoted as saying.
The call for the election of new leaders comes amidst growing concerns over the state of infrastructure, traffic congestion, and security in Abuja. The federal government has been under pressure to address these issues, with some critics accusing it of neglecting the city.
Wike’s call for leadership change could signal a renewed push for development in Abuja. However, it remains unclear whether the minister’s comments will translate into concrete action or political maneuvering.
