The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has moved to reassure Nigerians about its newly introduced device checker policy. According to THISDAYLIVE, the policy is designed to boost consumer safety and improve the quality of service delivered by telecommunications companies in the country. The NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, stated that the device checker policy was necessary due to the increasing number of counterfeit and substandard devices in the market. This, he said, poses a threat to consumers and the telecommunications industry at large. The device checker policy will enable the NCC to verify the authenticity and quality of devices before they are sold to consumers. This, in turn, will protect consumers from purchasing substandard or fake devices, and ensure that they enjoy uninterrupted service. The NCC has not yet announced when the device checker will become operational. The move to introduce the device checker policy comes as the telecommunications industry in Nigeria continues to grow and evolve, with increasing demand for mobile devices and data services. This has led to a proliferation of unregulated devices and services, which can compromise network security and service quality. By implementing the device checker policy, the NCC aims to maintain a high level of service quality and protect consumers from the risks associated with using substandard or counterfeit devices.
