Nigeria: Disaster Averted as 33,000-litre Ethanol Tanker Falls Off Lagos Bridge

On Thursday, October 14, a major disaster was narrowly averted in Lagos as a 33,000-litre ethanol tanker fell off the Second Rainbow Bridge in Amuwo Odofin, according to reports from both Blueprint Newspapers and Punch Newspapers. The incident occurred at about 11:30 am local time. According to Blueprint Newspapers, the tanker was en route to a depot in the Apapa area when it fell, causing panic among residents. However, there were no reported casualties. The cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed by the authorities. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) are reported to have been on ground to manage traffic and prevent any secondary accidents. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with heavy-duty trucking in Lagos, a city notorious for its notoriously bad roads and traffic congestion. It is crucial that the necessary safety measures are put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
