Nigeria Requires Over Half a Million Personnel for State Police, Says Abiodun

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who is also the chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, has stated that Nigeria will need an additional 554,353 personnel to adequately staff the proposed State Police system. According to reports in Tribune Online, Punch Newspapers, and Vanguard News, Abiodun made this known during a security meeting in Ibadan.

Abiodun also called for the establishment of a dedicated State Police Trust Fund to prevent poorer states from being left behind in the implementation of the new police system.

The governor’s comments come at a time when the call for the establishment of state police in Nigeria has gained momentum, with some arguing that it is necessary to address the security challenges facing the country.
