Nigeria Opens 40 Oil, Gas Blocks to Global Investors
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has invited global investors to bid for 40 oil and gas blocks, signaling a push for increased investment in Nigeria's energy sector.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has opened up 40 oil and gas blocks for bidding, inviting global investors to consider Nigeria as a preferred destination for energy investments amid growing global energy tensions and increasing competition for capital.
According to reports by Punch Newspapers and Vanguard News, the bidding process is scheduled to commence on November 20, 2026.
The Commission’s Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, made the announcement during a roundtable discussion at the 2026 ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference in Abuja. The discussion focused on energy sovereignty in an interconnected world, aligning national interests with global energy needs.
This move by the NUPRC comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking to boost its oil and gas production to meet growing global demand and reduce its reliance on crude oil exports for revenue.
It remains uncertain whether the NUPRC has specified the conditions for bidding or the criteria for selecting successful bidders. The NNPC has not said when the facility began operating.
As Nigeria continues to attract international interest in its oil and gas sector, the government is also focusing on addressing the challenges of infrastructure, security, and regulatory issues to ensure a conducive investment climate.
