Nigeria Ranks 15th in Commonwealth Youth AI Readiness Index

A recent index by the Commonwealth Secretariat ranks Nigeria among the top 15 countries with the highest readiness for Artificial Intelligence (AI) among youths.

A new report by the Commonwealth Secretariat has placed Nigeria among the top 15 Commonwealth countries with the highest readiness for Artificial Intelligence (AI) among its youth population. The report, titled ‘Youth AI Readiness Index’, ranked Nigeria 15th out of 53 member countries.

The index assesses the readiness of young people aged 15 to 29 in Commonwealth countries to engage with AI, with a focus on their digital skills, awareness, and attitudes towards the technology. According to the report, Nigeria scored high in digital skills and awareness, with 67% of its youth population reported to have access to the internet.

The news comes as a significant boost to Nigeria’s growing technology sector, which has seen a surge in investment and innovation in recent years. However, it also highlights the need for continued efforts to address gaps in digital literacy and access, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

The report, which was launched on November 5, 2026, was compiled using data from sources such as the World Bank, the International Telecommunication Union, and the Commonwealth Secretariat’s own youth surveys. The full report can be accessed on the Commonwealth Secretariat’s website.
