Nigeria and Russia Plan to Update 59-Year-Old Aviation Agreement

Nigeria and Russia are working on replacing their outdated aviation agreement to enhance cooperation and expand air travel.

According to reports by Punch Newspapers, Nigeria and Russia are in the process of replacing a 59-year-old Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA). The move is aimed at strengthening aviation cooperation between the two countries and expanding air travel opportunities. The current agreement was signed in 1967 and has been in effect since. No further details about the proposed new agreement have been disclosed yet.

While this development could potentially open up more air routes and boost trade between Nigeria and Russia, it remains to be seen how the new agreement will be structured and what its impact will be. Punch Newspapers did not specify when the negotiations began or when the new agreement might be finalized.

This update comes at a time when the aviation sector in Nigeria is undergoing significant changes, with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently unveiling a new strategic roadmap to modernize the industry.
