Nigerian Envoy Announces Scholarship Scheme for First-Class Students

The Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, George Adesola Oguntade, has announced a new scholarship scheme for Nigerian students who graduated with first-class degrees. The announcement was made during a virtual town hall meeting organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) UK chapter. According to the High Commissioner, the scholarship scheme aims to provide financial assistance to high-achieving Nigerian students who may struggle to fund their postgraduate studies in the UK. The details of the scholarship scheme, including the number of scholarships to be awarded, the value of each scholarship, and the eligibility criteria, are yet to be disclosed. However, the High Commissioner encouraged Nigerian students to strive for academic excellence, as it would open doors to numerous opportunities both in Nigeria and abroad. The scholarship scheme is the latest initiative by the Nigerian government to support Nigerian students studying abroad. Last year, the Federal Government launched the N-Power Knowledge programme, which offers scholarships to Nigerian students studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related courses at universities in the UK, US, and Canada. The scholarship scheme has been welcomed by the Nigerian student community in the UK, who hailed it as a much-needed boost for Nigerian students striving for academic excellence.
