The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, recently highlighted Nigeria’s maritime policy and its investor-friendly approach during the Africa Maritime and Energy Week. According to Voice of Nigeria, Usman emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses in the maritime sector. She stated, ‘Our focus is on making the maritime sector a key driver of economic growth, and we are committed to implementing policies that attract foreign and local investments.’ The NPA boss also discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at improving port infrastructure, streamlining operations, and reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks. These efforts are expected to make Nigeria a more attractive destination for maritime investments. The Africa Maritime and Energy Week, held in Lagos, provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for boosting the continent’s maritime economy. The event attracted representatives from various countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, and Egypt. This move towards a more investor-friendly maritime policy is a significant step towards diversifying Nigeria’s economy and reducing its reliance on oil revenues. However, it remains to be seen how effectively these policies will be implemented and whether they will lead to the desired outcomes. (Source: Voice of Nigeria)
