Opposition Parties in Edo State Vow to Resist Political Violence in 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) have pledged to resist political violence and intimidation in Edo State, Nigeria, as the 2027 elections approach.

Two opposition political parties in Edo State, Nigeria, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), have vowed to resist any form of political violence and intimidation ahead of the 2027 elections, according to the Tribune Online. The parties expressed their commitment to peaceful campaigns and elections during a press conference held in Benin City, the Edo State capital. The ADC and NDC have been critical of the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for their roles in the violence and manipulation that marred past elections in the state. The opposition parties’ resolve to maintain peace and order is a positive step towards ensuring a free and fair electoral process in Edo State. This commitment is particularly important given the history of political violence and electoral malpractice in the state. Edo State has been a hotbed of political tension and violence, with the 2008 gubernatorial election being one of the most contentious in the country’s history. The 2027 elections in Edo State will be closely watched by Nigerians and the international community, and the ADC and NDC’s commitment to peaceful campaigns and elections is a welcome development.
