Oyo APC and APM Trade Words Over Destruction of Sharafadeen Alli’s Billboards

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, of vandalising his billboards in Ibadan. According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the APC alleges that the destruction took place in the Ibadan North West Local Government Area. The APC’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, was quoted as saying that the act was an affront to the democratic process and a sign of desperation on the part of the ADC. The ADC, in response, denied any involvement in the destruction of the billboards. The ADC’s Publicity Secretary, Adebayo Adelabu, told Punch Newspapers that the ADC does not condone such acts and urged its supporters to conduct themselves with decorum. The ADC, according to Adelabu, will not be deterred by such tactics and will continue to campaign peacefully for the governorship election scheduled for 2027. The destruction of political billboards is not uncommon during election seasons in Nigeria. This incident highlights the growing tension between the APC and the ADC in the lead up to the governorship election. It remains unclear whether the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
