PDP Faction Contemplates Challenging Court of Appeal Verdict on Wike-led Leadership
A faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly considering challenging the Court of Appeal's judgement that recognized Governor Wike's-backed leadership.

According to Premium Times Nigeria, a faction within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is contemplating a legal challenge against the Court of Appeal’s recent judgement that recognized the leadership backed by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, informed the publication that the party’s legal team is currently studying the judgement to decide on further action. It is important to note that the PDP has been grappling with a leadership crisis since the resignation of Uche Secondus in May 2021, with different factions laying claim to the party’s leadership. The Court of Appeal’s ruling on November 3, 2026, recognized the leadership of a faction led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, which was backed by Governor Wike. However, it remains unclear whether this ruling will bring an end to the PDP’s leadership tussle or if it will further escalate the ongoing dispute. Nigerian voters and political enthusiasts eagerly await the party’s decision on this crucial matter.
