Reactions Pour In as Court Nullifies Atiku’s Presidential Bid

Nigerians have reacted on social media following the court's decision to nullify Atiku Abubakar's presidential candidacy for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Following the court’s decision to nullify Atiku Abubakar’s presidential candidacy for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigerians have flooded social media with their reactions. Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja sacked the David Mark-led executives of the ADC and voided the nomination of the former Vice President, who was to run against Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Among the actions thrown out by the court was the nomination of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate. The decision has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many Nigerians accusing Tinubu of manipulating the system to his advantage. Some have taken to social media to express their disappointment, while others have questioned the integrity of the court system. “Tinubu let opposition breathe,” wrote one Twitter user, reflecting a sentiment shared by many. Another user posted, “The court system in Nigeria is a joke,” expressing concerns about the independence of the judiciary. The court’s decision has also brought into focus the political landscape of the upcoming 2027 elections, with many wondering how the ruling will affect the opposition’s chances. According to Daily Post Nigeria, the court has yet to announce when it will deliver its full judgment on the matter. The ADC, Atiku Abubakar, and Bola Tinubu have not responded publicly to the court’s decision.
