In a piece published by Premium Times Nigeria, Samson R. Osagie discusses the need for Edo people worldwide to stand against diaspora-based attacks on the Benin monarchy.
In a reflection published by Premium Times Nigeria, journalist Samson R. Osagie calls on the Edo people both in Nigeria and the diaspora to unite against attacks on the Benin monarchy. The 10th coronation anniversary of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, was marked by celebrations in Benin City and around the world. However, the anniversary was also marred by criticism from some members of the Edo diaspora who questioned the legitimacy of the Oba’s coronation and called for reforms within the Benin monarchy. According to Osagie, these attacks are misguided and harmful, and the Edo people must come together to support the Oba and uphold the rich traditions of the Benin kingdom.
