Nigerian lawmakers have commended the progress being made on the construction of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) headquarters in Enugu State, according to the Voice of Nigeria and Tribune Online. The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on SEDC, Hon Chris Nkwonta, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the facility and described it as a crucial institutional pillar for driving regional transformation. Nkwonta’s praise follows months of work on the building, which is expected to serve as a central hub for SEDC’s operations. The commission was established by the Nigerian government in 2019 with a mandate to address the developmental needs of the South-East region, which has lagged behind other parts of the country in terms of infrastructure, education, and healthcare. The SEDC headquarters, once completed, will be a significant step towards achieving these objectives. According to the Voice of Nigeria, the facility is currently undergoing interior work and is expected to be fully operational in the coming months. The commission has not yet announced a specific date for the completion of the headquarters, but lawmakers appear optimistic about its future impact on the region.
