Representatives Investigate Alleged Money Laundering by NNPC Executive Over Gas Licences

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into allegations of money laundering against a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) executive, Dr Mumuni Dawood, in relation to gas distribution licences issued to NIPCO Plc. According to reports from Tribune Online and Punch Newspapers, one of the petitions seeks an investigation into the gas distribution licences issued to NIPCO Plc by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The allegations against Dr Dawood involve claims of irregularities in the issuance of the licences and potential money laundering activities. This investigation comes amidst growing concerns about corruption and mismanagement in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. The exact nature of the alleged money laundering activities is not yet clear, but the House of Representatives has stated that it will be investigating the matter thoroughly. This development is significant as it highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, which is crucial for the country’s economic development. The investigation is ongoing and further updates are expected in due course.
