Reps Give Telecom CEOs 7 Days to Improve Service or Face Consequences
The House of Representatives has given telecom CEOs a seven-day ultimatum to improve service quality or face consequences.

The House of Representatives has given telecom CEOs a seven-day ultimatum to appear before its Ad-hoc Committee on Telecommunications Service Quality over persistent network failures. The decision comes as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify. According to Tribune Online, the Chairman of the committee, Rep. Aminu Suleiman, stated that the CEOs have been given until November 11 to appear in person. If they fail to do so, the committee may invoke constitutional sanctions. The move comes amid widespread complaints of poor service delivery from telecom subscribers in Nigeria. This is not the first time the committee has issued such an ultimatum. In April 2026, the committee gave the CEOs a two-week ultimatum to improve service quality, but little improvement was reported. It remains to be seen if this latest ultimatum will lead to significant improvements in service quality. The consequences of poor service delivery during the 2027 elections could be severe, as millions of Nigerians rely on their phones for communication and access to vital information. In a statement, Rep. Suleiman said, ‘We cannot afford to have our telecommunications infrastructure fail us at this critical time.’
