In an interview with Punch Newspapers, Reverend Isaac Omolehin opened up about the challenges he has faced for criticizing divisions within Nigeria’s Christian bodies. According to the reverend, his outspoken views have exposed him and his family to security threats from banned religious groups.
‘My criticism of denominational divisions in Nigerian Christianity has brought attention to my work,’ Omolehin told Punch Newspapers. ‘Unfortunately, this has also attracted the ire of some extremist elements who view my message as a threat to their ideology.’
This is not the first time Omolehin has faced backlash for his views. In 2021, he was accused of blasphemy by a group of Muslim protesters, leading to violent clashes in his hometown.
The reverend’s story serves as a reminder of the complex religious landscape in Nigeria and the challenges faced by those who dare to challenge the status quo. It also highlights the importance of free speech and the need for protection for religious minorities in the country.
