In a recent engagement, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the former Governor of Borno State and a key political adviser to Vice President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, called on the newly elected President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, to prioritize the development of African football and Nigeria’s interests. Zulum made these comments during a meeting with Motsepe, who was in Nigeria to discuss plans for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to reports in Nigeria Sports on Google News, Zulum emphasized the importance of African football, particularly in Nigeria, and urged Motsepe to ensure that the continent’s football continues to grow and thrive. The former Governor also expressed hope that the new CAF President would prioritize the welfare and development of African footballers, as well as create opportunities for them to showcase their talents on a global stage.

Patrice Motsepe, a South African billionaire businessman and philanthropist, was elected as the new President of CAF in March 2023, succeeding Ahmad Ahmad. Motsepe’s election marked a significant shift in African football leadership, with the new President pledging to focus on transparency, good governance, and the development of the sport on the continent.

The development of African football and Nigeria’s interests in the sport is a topic of significant importance to many Nigerians, particularly in light of the country’s rich footballing history and the potential for growth and success in the sport. As the new CAF President, Patrice Motsepe has a crucial role to play in shaping the future of African football, and his actions and decisions will be closely watched by football enthusiasts across the continent.
