SSS Opposes Sowore’s Request to Call Prosecution Lawyer as Witness
The Department of State Services (SSS) has asked a court to reject Omoyele Sowore's request to call his prosecution lawyer as a witness in his ongoing trial.

In a twist in the ongoing trial of activist Omoyele Sowore, the Department of State Services (SSS) has urged a court to reject his request to subpoena his prosecution lawyer as a witness. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the SSS argued that Sowore’s request was a ploy to delay his trial. Sowore, a prominent activist and publisher, is currently facing charges related to calls for a revolution in 2019. The court is yet to rule on his request.
The development comes amidst growing concerns over the independence of Nigeria’s justice system, with critics accusing the government of using the judiciary to silence dissenting voices. The SSS’s opposition to Sowore’s request has sparked debates among legal experts and human rights advocates, with some arguing that it is a violation of Sowore’s right to a fair trial.
