Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has launched the Iru Ekun Security Network at the popular Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. This development comes amidst ongoing agitations for secession in parts of Nigeria. According to Tribune Online, the event took place on Sunday, October 25th. The Iru Ekun Security Network is reportedly intended to provide security in Yoruba land, a move that could be seen as a response to the insecurity in the region. Igboho has been at the forefront of agitations for a Yoruba nation, a separate state for the Yoruba people who reside predominantly in southwestern Nigeria. His activism has led to clashes with authorities and other groups, most notably the expulsion of herders from Ibarapa area of Oyo State earlier this year. The establishment of the Iru Ekun Security Network could further escalate tensions in the region, as it raises questions about the legitimacy and accountability of the group. It is unclear how the Nigerian government will respond to this development, as the country grapples with a variety of security challenges. The launch of the Iru Ekun Security Network by Sunday Igboho underscores the ongoing agitations for secession in parts of Nigeria, and the need for effective and accountable security structures in the region.
