On Monday, President Bola Tinubu convened a strategic meeting with the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), at the Presidential Residence in Lagos. According to Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Defence, the focus of the meeting was on national security matters. This gathering comes as the new administration seeks to address ongoing security challenges across Nigeria.
While details of the discussions have not been disclosed, it is clear that strengthening the nation’s defence and security apparatus is a top priority for President Tinubu’s administration.
According to a statement issued by Leah Katung-Babatunde, the meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration between the President and the Minister.
This development underscores the importance of effective communication and coordination between political leaders and security agencies as Nigeria grapples with numerous security threats, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and cybercrime.
The meeting follows a similar gathering held last week between President Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to discuss crime prevention strategies and the reformation of the Nigerian Police Force.
As the new administration settles into office, expectations are high for improved security and increased public safety. The outcomes of these meetings will be closely watched by Nigerians, who eagerly anticipate a more secure future.
