Tinubu’s Delegate at UNGA Defended by APC Chieftain Mumuni

In a move that has stirred controversy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to delegate Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent Nigeria at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has been defended by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Abayomi Nurain Mumuni. According to Tribune Online, Mumuni spoke amid public reactions to the Presidency’s announcement that Shettima would represent Tinubu and lead Nigeria’s delegation at the high-level gathering in New York. While some Nigerians have criticised this move as a breach of the constitution, Mumuni, a security expert, sees it differently.

Tinubu’s absence from the UNGA has sparked debates over the President’s constitutional obligation to personally attend the event. However, the Presidency maintains that Tinubu can rule Nigeria from anywhere in the world, according to reports by Daily Post Nigeria. Despite these assertions, questions remain about the implications of this decision on Nigeria’s diplomatic representation and democratic processes.

This development underscores the ongoing debate over presidential delegation at international forums and its impact on the nation’s leadership and accountability.
