Former Senate President Pius Anyim has defended President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), stating that Nigerians understand he is on leave. In an interview with Punch Newspapers, Anyim dismissed concerns over Tinubu’s absence, explaining that Vice President Kashim Shettima was representing Nigeria at the global gathering instead.
According to Vanguard News, Anyim said there was nothing unusual about Tinubu delegating the responsibility to Shettima. This comes after speculations arose over Tinubu’s health and his ability to attend international events.
The UNGA began on September 19th and will continue until September 27th. World leaders, including those from Nigeria, are expected to address global issues and discuss future policies. President Tinubu’s absence has raised questions among Nigerians, especially given his recent health concerns. However, Anyim’s comments seem to assure the public that all is well and that the president is on leave.
