Tragedy in Ondo: Senator Shehu Sani Reacts to Air Force Helicopter Crash

A helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force has crashed in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area in Ondo State. While the identities of the helicopter and those on board are yet to be confirmed, multiple sources report that many people are feared dead following the crash.

The incident occurred in a swampy area in the early hours of Monday morning, according to reports from THISDAYLIVE. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has since initiated a search and rescue operation at the scene.

Fidelis David, a correspondent for THISDAYLIVE based in Akure, reports that the crash site is located in a difficult-to-reach area of Igbokoda, making it challenging for emergency responders to access the scene. The NAF has not yet said when the facility began operating or given details on the number of casualties.

Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and prominent Nigerian politician, took to his Twitter handle to express his condolences over the tragic incident. He described it as a ‘heartbreaking loss’ for the country.

This is not the first time that such an accident has occurred in Nigeria. In 2016, a military helicopter crashed in Bayelsa State, killing all nine people on board.
