U-23 AFCONQ: Foreign professionals bolster Olympic Eagles ahead of DR Congo clash
The Olympic Eagles, Nigeria's U-23 national football team, has received a boost as foreign-based professionals are set to join the squad ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against DR Congo.

The Olympic Eagles, Nigeria’s U-23 national football team, has received a significant boost ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against DR Congo. According to Daily Post Nigeria, foreign-based professionals have started arriving at the team’s camp following an unimpressive performance by the home-based players in a friendly match against Remo Stars last weekend. The foreign professionals, who are expected to join the squad this weekend, will strengthen the Olympic Eagles’ squad, particularly in key positions. The team’s performance against Remo Stars, a Nigeria National League (NNL) side, was less than impressive, with the U-23 team holding to a goalless draw. This result has heightened the need for the Olympic Eagles to strengthen their squad ahead of the crucial AFCON qualifier against DR Congo. The match against DR Congo is scheduled for November 12, and a strong showing by the Olympic Eagles could secure their place in the 2027 AFCON tournament. The foreign professionals joining the squad include the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, who plays for Villarreal in Spain, and Victor Osimhen, who currently plies his trade with Napoli in Italy. The addition of these players is expected to inject much-needed pace and quality into the Olympic Eagles’ attack.
